Social Responsibility & Design is a co-created international platform programme for exploring the inclusiveness of public places and the wellbeing of urban dwellers through participatory design.
The programme builds upon issues of social responsibility, openness, diversity and active ageing through widening and deepening the roles that design plays in peoples’ lives. It assumes that design has a vital role to play in improving the urban living environment and make them better places to live for the local community of people. This project will draw upon and inspire cutting edge thinking and explore the role of participatory design in advancing the quality of people’s lives. Social Responsibility & Design project is part of the official World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 programme.
Helsinki is World Design Capital 2012 together with Espoo, Vantaa, Kauniainen and Lahti. The aim of the World Design Capital year is to improve the everyday and living environment of the citizens and to develop the internationalization of business sector and business practises through design. The outcome is a better city. World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 consists of more than 250 independent projects, public events and encouters of international design professionals. World Design Capital is selected every other year. The selection is done by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid).
